What is Shatter?
Shatter is an extract which is a type of cannabis concentrate that is made by combining weed plant materials and solvents. Usually shatter is translucent and the colours may look like a bright honey like amber to a darker yellow tint. The texture can vary from extremely brittle to a taffy like snap and pull.
Shatter that’s higher in tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) will tend to be sappier. Shatter that’s higher in level of tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA) will be much more brittle. At room temperature, THC is a sappy oil, giving shatter with a high THC content a more viscous consistency, whereas THCA is solid at room temperature, yielding a fragile concentrate that’s easier to break apart.
How to Use Shatter
Is Shatter the Same as Dabs?
Yes, all shatter can be dabbed. However, not all dabs can be considered shatter. Dabbing is when one uses a small water pipe known as a rig with a flat bowl and nail.
To dab, one preheats the nail with a propane torch or small butane until temperature is optimum. Drop a small amount of concentrate onto the nail. When the shatter touches the hot nail it will instantly vaporize and you can place a cap over it and inhale the vapors.
Shatter is very concentrated and when dabbing can offer a very potent high with terpene-rich flavors and aroma. Shatter when used needs to have the necessary dab tools for the optimum experience. The temperature of the nail at when the vapors are consumed is very crucial as it affects the flavor and the healthful effects the shatter provides.
